We Fish. We Explore.
Tucked into one of the most breathtaking and remote corners of the Canadian Rockies, this is where guided fly fishing meets genuine comfort. Your days move between exploring this vast area and spending time on the water with an expert guide at your side. Your evenings unfold inside a canvas yurt, around a table set with food that has no business being this good this far from civilization.
And getting there? A helicopter ride over the Continental Divide — the kind of approach that lets you know, before you've even wet a line, that this trip is something different. This is our most refined experience. Unhurried, intentional, and quietly extraordinary.

Calling all anglers and explorers —
Your most unforgettable cast is waiting
For the guest who knows exactly what they want — and isn't afraid to go deep into the wilderness to find it.
You love to explore, but you also know the difference between roughing it and doing it right. You're drawn to wild places, but you don't mind if those wild places come with a hot shower, a cozy bed, and a meal worth lingering over. You fish not just for the catch, but for the quiet — the stillness of a high alpine lake, the patience, the reward of a native Brook Trout rising to the fly.
Welcome to Fortress Lake.
You are our Fortress Lake guest if…
You're drawn to wild, remote places and find your peace on the water — patient, curious, and quietly thrilled by the tug of a native Brook Trout on the line.
You believe the journey is part of the experience — and a helicopter ride over the Continental Divide feels less like transportation and more like the opening scene of the best trip you've ever taken.
You appreciate great food, real comfort, and the particular joy of a hot shower and a cozy bed after a day spent deep in the wilderness — because doing it right and doing it wild aren't mutually exclusive.
You're ready to invest in something truly extraordinary — an unhurried, intentional adventure that you'll be telling stories about long after you've unpacked your waders.
Even the skeptics end up hooked!
Last summer, we brought twelve seasoned hikers to Fortress Lake — not a single one came for the fishing. By day four, those same hikers were standing at the water's edge holding their Brook Trout up like proud parents. Nobody saw it coming. Nobody was complaining. All were beaming with joy. Fortress Lake has a way of surprising you with what you didn't know you needed.
“The resort has a magical ambiance for fishing and for hiking too!! It is a special place.”
Four guests. One expert guide. Two and a half days in BC's wildest backcountry. No crowds. No signal. No rush.
Trip Itinerary
-
Our charter, Rockies Heli is located at Cline River along highway 11, situated between Jasper and Banff. If you are flying into Calgary, ask us about transportation to the base. The heli aims to leave at 8:30am and have you at the resort by 9. The trip over the continental divide, the Whitegoat Wilderness and the Canadian Rockies is nothing short of spectacular. Day 1 we get our guests settled into their accommodation, give you a tour of the resort and provide you with fuel before we send you off on the days adventures.
-
There are four hikes to choose from at the lake. Vanishing Pond winds its way through old growth forest to a pond that vanishes as the summer turns to fall. Our lakeside hike takes you along the border of Jasper National Park and the Chabba River. Our glacier views hike gets you up high to see the lake and Serenity Glacier from the base of Chisel Peak. And finally, cross the lake and spend the day climbing an arm of Seige Peak for a look across the lake at the resort from up high!
Distance: ~10 KM -
The fishing at Fortress Lake is truly incredible and is part of a protected UNESCO World Heritage site. Originally fish-free, the lake was stocked with eastern brook trout in the 1920s by a Jasper National Park warden with further stocking in the 1960s.
It is considered one of the world's best locations for trophy brook trout, which are descendants of Lake Superior "Coaster" strains.
The fishing guides at Fortress are formally trained, with many arriving from the Forshaga Akademin in Sweden, a school dedicated to the art of guided fly fishing and water ecology. The resort provides everything you need to make your fishing trip successful. The gear, the guides and the best location for Brooke Trout worldwide.

After a day of hiking, fly fishing, and shared meals, sink into the cedar wood-fired hot tub as the stars come out. On a clear night, the sky above Fortress Lake is something else entirely — constellations sharp, the Milky Way wide open, millions of stars with nothing between you and them.
In the morning, the helicopter returns and lifts you back over the Columbia Icefields toward Cline River. The mountains fall away beneath you, and you realize that a place like this quietly gets into your soul — something shifts. The beauty is forever engrained into your mind and you are changed.
Backcountry Luxury
Life at the resort
The resort sits on a sandy peninsula — and yes, that means you're largely mosquito-free. Mornings start on the dock with a coffee and a rod, and motor boats are on hand to take you out to explore the far corners of the lake throughout your stay.
Back at camp you'll find a cedar wood-fired hot tub, cozy yurts and canvas tents for sleeping, hot showers and flush toilets. Meals are served in the dining and social yurt — a warm gathering space where the day winds down over good food and great company. Your double occupancy booking guarantees you a private sleeping space.
Comfortable, unpretentious, and genuinely remote. Just the way we like it.

What to know, common questions
-
No. You need to enjoy hiking and fishing and be comfortable on uneven terrain for several hours at a time. Our guides set the pace and know the terrain — your job is to show up curious and willing to move at a comfortable rhythm.
Never picked up a fly rod before? No problem. Our professional guides will take you from complete newcomer to confident angler — teaching the art of the cast, reading the water, and before long, bringing a brook trout to the net.
-
Helicopter access means we fly when conditions are safe. Alpine weather in the Rockies is real and unpredictable, and your safety is always the first consideration. Rockies Heli's experienced pilots know this terrain — and we work together to find the right weather window before every flight. While you wait, you'll do so in comfort at the Rockies Heli lodge.
We can't control the weather, but we can control what's waiting for you when it rolls in. Hot showers, a personal wood stove in every yurt, a fire blazing in the dining space, and hot meals on the table — bad weather has never felt this good.
-
Private groups are welcome. With capacity for up to 12 guests, Fortress Lake Lodge is the perfect setting for a family gathering, a wedding, or a friends' fishing getaway.
-
Deposits & Payment A 25% non-refundable deposit is required to hold your space. Full payment is due 60 days prior to your trip date.
Cancellations You may cancel up to 60 days before your trip and receive a refund of all payments made, minus your deposit. Cancellations within 59 days of the trip date are non-refundable.
Travel Insurance We strongly recommend purchasing travel insurance. Wilderness travel comes with variables outside anyone's control — forest fires, trip interruptions, medical emergencies — and the right policy will protect your investment. If there's any chance something could get in the way of your trip, don't skip it.
-
Starlink internet is available in the communal dining space for those who need to check in with the outside world. Beyond that, consider your phone off and your mind free — out here, nobody can reach you anyway.
