Full Day Fungi Education and Forage
Civilian Mycologist, Ryan Sullivan takes us deep into the world of mushrooms.
This introduction to fungi will include a morning information session, a wild mushroom lunch, and an afternoon foray to find which fungi grow locally!
Meeting in a cozy classroom setting, the morning class will cover the basics of fungi: what they are, how they grow, how they obtain nutrients, and how they reproduce. We will cover how to properly identify mushroom characteristics, using identity keys, and other resources. Next, we will go over which local species are edible, which are toxic, and other uses for fungi.
Lunch will be centred around wild mushrooms, depending on what is in season at the time.
After lunch we will head out as a group to the forest for a fungi foray. We will practice identifying mushrooms, taking notes, photos, and collecting as we go!
