Tunnel Mountain
A challenging day hike exploring the peak and ridgelines of Tunnel Mountain and Brown Peak. 13+ km.
Tunnel Mountain, in the Tumbler Ridge Geopark, has been described as one of the wonders of the world. A true natural tunnel formed within the mountain — it's a sight worth working for.
This is not an easy hike. The terrain is varied, with the majority being off-trail travel: expect bush, blowdown, rocks, scree slopes, and steep terrain. But there are rewards along the way — open meadows, long ridgelines, and wide alpine slopes that make give you those bragging rights at the end ;).

Trip Itinerary
-
Meet in Tumbler Ridge at 8:00 AM for a gear check, safety briefing, and trip overview before driving to the trailhead. You will need a vehicle that you are prepared to take on gravel roads.
Teh trail begins on a well worn path to Windfall Lake, but quickly ducks into the bush for an off trail experience. Once in the open meadows, we see our first obstacle, the ridgeline of Brown Peak. Short but steep climbing gains the fist part of a healthy grind towards our first view of Tunnel Mountain.
To gain the final ascent we must traverse a scree slope before easy walking along the spine dividng Tunnel and Brown Peak.
At the base of Tunnel we encounter another healthy climb before dropping into the most amazing natural Tunnel - and what mountain is named after!
